Wound Care Podiatry

Effective wound care requires more than a dressing and a follow-up appointment. For patients managing diabetic foot ulcers, chronic non-healing wounds or post-surgical complications, the quality of clinical assessment and ongoing management can be the difference between recovery and serious long-term consequences.

At Sydney Podiatry Co in Balgowlah, we offer specialist wound care podiatry delivered by two podiatrists who are also registered nurses; a combination of qualifications that is genuinely rare in a private podiatry clinic, and one that gives our patients access to a level of wound care expertise that is difficult to find outside a hospital setting.

A Credential That Matters

Most podiatry clinics treat wounds as part of a general scope of practice. At Sydney Podiatry Co, wound care is a clinical specialty.

Both of our wound care podiatrists hold dual qualifications as registered nurses and podiatrists, bringing a depth of clinical knowledge that extends well beyond standard podiatry training. They are experienced with complex and high-risk patients, and are trained to recognise and appropriately escalate signs of infection, vascular compromise or systemic complications.

Our podiatrist, Rebecca Calloway, has pursued additional specialist wound care training, attending advanced courses specifically focused on high-risk wound management to further amplify her clinical expertise. Rebecca's background makes her one of the most comprehensively trained wound care practitioners available in a private podiatry setting on the Northern Beaches.

Conditions We Treat

We provide wound care assessment and management for:

  • Diabetic foot ulcers and high-risk diabetic foot complications
  • Chronic and non-healing wounds
  • Infected wounds requiring clinical assessment and management
  • Post-surgical wounds and operative site care

If you are unsure whether your wound is appropriate for podiatric management, please call our clinic and we will advise you honestly.

What Your Treatment Involves

Every patient is assessed individually. Your wound care appointment will involve a thorough clinical assessment of the wound and surrounding tissue, followed by an appropriate treatment plan. This may include:

  • Sharp debridement — precise removal of non-viable or infected tissue to promote healthy wound healing
  • Wound irrigation and cleansing — thorough cleaning to reduce bacterial load and prepare the wound bed
  • Advanced dressings — selection of the most clinically appropriate dressing based on wound type, exudate level and healing stage
  • Offloading and pressure deflection — reducing mechanical load on the wound to allow healing, particularly important for plantar foot ulcers

Where clinical findings indicate a concern beyond our scope, including signs of significant vascular compromise or systemic infection, we will communicate promptly with your GP or relevant specialist to ensure you receive the right care without delay.

Who We See

Our wound care patients include:

  • Patients with diabetes managing foot ulcers or high-risk foot changes
  • Elderly patients with wounds that are slow to heal
  • Patients referred by their GP or specialist for ongoing wound management
  • Self-referred patients who have been managing a wound independently without improvement

No referral is required to book an appointment, though we welcome and regularly work alongside GP referrals and specialist teams.

A Note for GPs and Referring Clinicians

We are actively building our wound care referral relationships with GPs and specialists across the Northern Beaches. If you are looking for a trusted private podiatry provider for your wound care patients — with dual-qualified RN podiatrists, a sterile clinical environment and a thorough reporting process — we would welcome the opportunity to work with you.

Please call our clinic directly on (02) 9949 3327 or email reception@sydneypodiatryco.com.au to discuss a referral relationship.

CCMP and NDIS

Wound care appointments may attract Medicare rebates for eligible patients under a Chronic Condition Management Plan (CCMP). We are also a registered NDIS provider. Contact our clinic or speak to your GP to find out if you are eligible.
