Orthotics Assessment Process

Orthotics are never one-size-fits-all. At Sydney Podiatry Co, we take a detailed and personalised approach to ensure the best outcome. Your assessment may include:

• Comprehensive Biomechanical Review

We assess how your feet function during standing and walking, and how this influences the rest of your lower limbs.

• Gait Analysis (Walking or Running)

Where appropriate, we evaluate movement patterns to identify areas of strain or inefficiency.

• Footwear Assessment

We review the shoes you wear day-to-day and provide guidance on the best styles to pair with orthotics.

• Orthotic Prescription and Design

We recommend the most suitable orthotic option, whether off-the-shelf, semi-custom or fully custom.

• Fitting and Follow-Up

We ensure your orthotics are comfortable, effective and properly adjusted over time.

Podiatrist-Prescribed Orthotics or Shop Inserts?

Many people try pharmacy or sports-store insoles before seeking professional care. While these can offer general cushioning, they are not designed to address specific biomechanical needs or injuries. Our goal is always to match the right orthotic solution to your needs, whether that’s a straightforward off-the-shelf device or a fully customised prescription.

Private Health Rebates & Insurance

Orthotics prescribed by a registered podiatrist are often claimable through private health insurance, depending on your level of extras cover. We offer HICAPS on-the-spot claiming at our Balgowlah clinic, so you can claim your rebate immediately at the time of your appointment.

Rebates vary between health funds, and our team can provide item numbers and guidance to help you claim appropriately.
